How To Repair A Mitsubishi Lancer Sunroof

  1. OK, my sunroof went dorsum similar normal, but when it came time to shut it...wouldn't go forrard and I could hear the gears slipping.
I decided to requite it a shot and run across if I could gear up it. It was WAY easier than I idea....so hither'south the how-to.
I was also pissed to accept the fourth dimension for pics....sorry

    Set up:

    1. Remove the roof mounted accessories ( I would recommend disconnecting the batt.)

    a. O-sh1t handles (3) - pop the rubber kick up on the outside edges and so #2 Phillips removes the screws.

    b. Clips by back window (3) - I pulled the headliner down and got my fingers on top and then only practical fifty-fifty pressure level and POP off they came. Exercise 1 at a time. Have your time on these.

    c. Molding around sunroof opening - grab information technology and pull toward middle of opening. No big tricks hither

    d. Sun visors (2) - leave clipped in place. Remove screws #2 Phillips (2-each) then un-clip and you have to rotate them down. Swivel and pull gently. You'll go information technology. They have two small fingers forward and ii friction clips on the side. Imagine the visor hanging downwardly vertically. Now, pull downwards and push toward windshield.

    e. Visor clips (2) - yous need two slotted screw drivers 1/iv" or 3/8" worked for me. These are a pain . Push button a screwdriver from each side in the notches. You have to push the both at the same time. Then the clip will popular out and but drop downwards.

    f. Dome light - apply a 1/4" - 3/8" slotted screwdriver to remove the articulate cover. And then use a 10mm socket to remove the bolts (2) on the sides. Un-clip the connector. Push little claw-tab and pull off.

    g. THIS MUST HAPPEN Later on THE DOME LIGHT! ! ! Sunroof switch trim - with the dome light removed you can await up on the hole and run into the greyness trim and where it clip on behind the headliner. Use a one/iv" slotted or smaller screwdriver and pop the grey hook clip off and the trim piece will just pop off.

ii. Pull back the colonnade covers and where they clip in at that place are white grommets in the headliner. Remove those then they don't get lost.

Now, if I can call back back one hr well your headliner should exist ready to remove.

    3. Lay the driver seat all the way back and with the dorsum door open, go far on all four corner and **gently** flex the headliner to go it our from behind the colonnade covers. So tilt and slide it out the back driver door.

At present- on to the sunroof track/motor----In that location are supposed to exist three bolts property the motor in...in my example, one was completely out, and the other two weren't tight at all.

iv. Drop the motor and now you lot can get the teeth back in line.

**Note** the motor has programmed revolutions. You take to make sure that it is in the position that yous desire it when y'all install it. I used the switch (still continued and mounted on the roof) to brand sure I was in the correct sequence.

What worked best for me was to open the roof, all the manner dorsum, not tilted upwards. Then I pushed with light pressure towards back on both sides of the sunroof (glass) by the rail. This makes certain that the sunroof is direct and all the manner open. So with my motor in the "fully open" rotation sequence. I reinstalled and added the missing screw and a small amount of threadlock to prevent this from happening again.

Screws are a phillips 0.8 pitch- 25mm (pitch is the thread pattern)

    5. At present do everything in reverse to put the headliner / accessories back in.

I searched and no one said annihilation near sunroof problem. So, I hope this helps out he side by side guy with trouble.

  2. Thank god you did this. My sunroof just started the same thing. I didnt want to take information technology somewhere to get fixed. Hopefully this will work for me as well. I will try to remember have pictures for you and you can add together them to your how to.
  3. that means the motor doesnt know the end points however. If i recall the sequence correctly you accept to go full open and hold the button for full open when the sunroof is full open for 5 seconds. Then go to full shut. Hold for full close 5 seconds. and so become to tilt and press tilt for v seconds. after that it gets fuzzy.. i cant recollect if y'all have to exercise that 2 or v more times... only basically you are resetting the timer circuits for rotation in the motor. I would also propose cleaning the track. if you lot tin grease the guides. worked for me every fourth dimension the damn bolts come up loose... i just gave up and stopped using the sunroof
